Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC and the fifth oldest in the NFL. They started life as the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1933, changing name to the Steelers before the 1940 season. The Steelers are the most successful team in NFL history and have also hosted more championship games than any other. Over the years, they have won eight Conference Championships and 20 Division Championships and have made 26 Playoff appearances resulting in six Super Bowl Championships. The most recent success was in the 2008 season when they beat the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl game.
Heinz Field is home to the Pittsburgh Steelers. This 65,050 capacity venue first opened in August 2001 replacing Three Rivers Stadium which was destroyed in a controlled implosion. Sports Illustrated voted Heinz Field the second best stadium in the NFL in 2007, behind Lambeau Field. In addition to the NFL games, the stadium has also hosted the NHL Winter Classic in 2001 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals.
